Job Description
At Aurora Energy, we're investing heavily in the transformation of our electricity network - and we need a technically savvy, future-thinking Distribution Systems Design Engineer to help us make this happen.
This is no longer about only designing poles and wires. It's about shaping a network that can handle the energy demands of tomorrow, things like smart metering, smartgrids, embedded generation, and greater visibility of what's happening in real time across our low and medium voltage systems.
Here's where your impact will be seen, as you:
- Design modern, intelligent LV and MV systems - both overhead and underground
- Create and maintain digital replicas of our network using tools like Neara and PowerFactory (or similar tools)
- Model system behaviour to support real-time visibility, fault detection, and smart load management
- Support the rollout and integration of smart meters and distributed energy resources (DERS)
- Work with and help to build future-focused standards, design guides, etc.
- Working cross-functionally to ensure our designs align with planning, asset lifecycle, customer expectations, and enable the business to move forward
What you'll bring to the role:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 7 of higher) or equivalent experience
- Relevant experience in electricity distribution
- Strong working knowledge of smart grid concepts, LV visibility, DER hosting, voltage regulation, and power quality
- Experience using tools such as COLDNET, LineSmart, Neara, PowerFactory, GIS, CAD or similar
- Confident in interpreting structural drawings and associated documentation
- You are an enabler, a collaborator, someone who shares knowledge and enjoys contributing to the bigger mission of Aurora
- Clear communication, approachable personality, you can talk both technically and in plain language for non-engineering peers
