  • Permanent full time (37.5 hours per week) position
  • Based in Albany

About us

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA) is New Zealand’s second largest tertiary institution and the world’s largest indigenous tertiary educator, and we’ve been providing transformational education opportunities to New Zealanders for nearly 40 years. Our vision of ‘Whānau transformation through education’ drives our commitment to being at the forefront of tertiary education underpinned by Māori culture and values.

Our kaimahi (employees) enjoy a whānau-friendly workplace where everyone is encouraged to be themselves. In return for their contribution, we offer kaimahi a range of benefits including:

  • Free health and life insurance for permanent employees.
  • Four extra annual leave days to celebrate Matariki and the Christmas/New Year season.
  • Special leave available for sporting or cultural events.
  • Tau Ora programmes that encourage wellbeing and inclusion.

About the role:

As an English Language Teacher at Dynaspeak, you will play a vital role in supporting domestic learners—many of whom are migrants and former refugees—by helping them build the language skills they need to thrive in Aotearoa New Zealand. This role goes beyond teaching; it’s about fostering belonging, building trust, and empowering learners to participate fully in their communities.

You will deliver engaging, learner-centred instruction in both classroom and online settings, using innovative and inclusive teaching practices. Your responsibilities will include lesson planning, delivery, assessment, and reporting, all while maintaining a strong focus on pastoral care and learner wellbeing.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Empathetic and culturally responsive
, with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by migrant and refugee learners.
  • Collaborative and community-minded, able to work effectively within a supportive academic team.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with the flexibility to teach across multiple Auckland sites and provide relief teaching when needed.
  • Passionate about education as a tool for empowerment and social inclusion.

This role is distinct from teaching international students—it requires a heart for service, a commitment to equity, and a genuine desire to make a difference in people’s lives.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has the following:

  • The minimum requirement is an internationally recognised teaching qualification, such as CELTA, Trinity Certificate in TESOL or equivalent.
  • Either currently hold or be in the process of obtaining the National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (NCALNE).
  • At least two years teaching in an ESOL environment.
  • Experience teaching NZCEL programmes and/or English for any structured qualifications would be desirable.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft suite, in particular, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with the internet and email usage is essential.

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
