Food Technologist - Pre-Op Auditor is responsible for auditing and verifying daily pre-operational hygiene practices to ensure compliance with food safety standards, while also supporting the continuous improvement of Jack Link’s quality systems by identifying opportunities for operational enhancements and leveraging data analysis to drive value and efficiency.

Important note - the regular hours for this position are 4am to 1230pm.


Job Description


In this role, you will collaborate closely with Sanitation and Operations Team Leaders to enhance the effectiveness of quality systems, reduce waste, and support continuous improvement initiatives. You will be responsible for reviewing and optimising processes, generating value-adding reports for compliance and lab teams, and assisting with the verification and validation of new procedures. Key duties include daily hygiene and food safety verifications, trend analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and ensuring compliance with Risk Management and Food Safety Quality Programs.

You will also support internal and external audits, manage equipment calibration and maintenance in collaboration with the lab team, and contribute to HACCP and environmental hygiene monitoring. Additionally, you will help develop training materials, ensure accurate and timely reporting, and uphold health and safety standards by reporting incidents and promoting best practices.

Further details are outlined below:

Sanitation management

  • Verify quality, food safety and hygiene practices and compliance requirements of the Risk Management Program In all areas of operation
  • Ensure continued compliance of the Risk Management and Food Safety Quality Programs on daily basis by:
    • Complete specific daily checks as defined in each area specific task lists
    • Ensure plant is compliant with existing standards as documented in company SOPs
    • Document and control breaches in Product Food Safety and quality by means of procedures documented in SOP Q-20
    • Document and control breaches in RMP policy by means of procedures documented in SOP Q-13
    • Trend analysis of sanitation scores and apply CAR and Preventive action as required
    • Review and report on sanitation trends and performance to compliance teams
    • Initiate corrective action and preventative solutions to identified issues
    • Organise cover for any lapse in inspection coverage

MPI / External audit bodies and export license management

  • Responsible for monthly Pre-op internal audit
  • Responsible for MPI Pre-op audit
  • Apply Required Corrective Action (CAR) for any identified non-conformance and conduct root cause analysis with aim to prevent of reoccurring
  • Be available for all external audits if requested from QCM

Equipment management and lab services

  • Assist lab Team members in the calibration and service of onsite technical equipment if required.
  • Ensure equipment required to support duties is working and where necessary report deficiencies to ensure continuity of service
  • Support sampling and product monitoring program for HACCP & Environmental hygiene verification programs

Health and Safety


  • To report all accidents and near misses in the workplace and participate in health and safety best practice

Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in food science or related degrees
  • Experience in similar role
  • Good knowledge of GMP requirements
  • knowledge of Microbiological and basis analytical lab skills (Desirable)
  • Audit experience (Desirable)

In addition the to above, the ideal candidate will have:

  • intermediate or better computer skills and use of Office 365 products
  • strong written and oral communication skills
  • the proven ability to multi-task
  • exemplary time management and prioritisation skills
  • experience contributing to and writing training material (Desirable)
  • strong problem solving skills
  • the ability to partner with many groups across the sites
