Are you a current student who is passionate about computer vision and enhancing customer experiences? If so, we have an exciting internship opportunity!
What You Will Do
As a Research Engineer intern in HMI, you will join our team at CTCT (Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies) in Christchurch. As an intern, you will have the chance to work on groundbreaking new experiences for operators of excavator machines using the latest technological advances.
In this role, you will be responsible for researching novel ways to improve HMI/HCI and designing prototypes using your software development skills. The project you will most likely be working on will involve using computer vision to process images with AI and neural networks to analyse what can be seen. You will have the opportunity to down-select the best concepts and build prototypes initially in a simulator, followed by in-cab on a test construction site. You will then rapidly iterate and refine these concepts based on user feedback, and finally, analyze results and report on performance.
You will gain valuable hands-on experience, and be provided with challenging, meaningful tasks that will give you insight into what it's like working full-time as a valued member of a team.
Our internships are designed to prepare you for your career journey, while growing as a professional through lunch and learns, team-building activities, and social networking events with other interns. Over the course of your internship, we want you to feel like you belong, innovate, and grow personally and professionally. Join Trimble’s community to have a global impact where we value you, your experience, and your skills to propel your career forward.
What You Should Bring
Being a natural team player, with a positive attitude and strong work prioritisation skills, along with a collaborative communication and working style, you will also possess these skills:
  • Currently studying in all or some of the fields of HCI, Computer Studies, or Mechatronics
  • A passion for Computer Vision and some understanding of computer vision principles
  • Experience coding in Python or similar programming languages
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn (you will work closely with your supervisor, who will provide you with instructions and support to help you grow and develop your skills).
Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and make a real impact in the industry.
Please note: Only applicants who are students and legally entitled to work in New Zealand will be considered.
