Taitara Mahi - Landfill Operator
Permanent Full Time – 45 hours per week

Ōmarunui Landfill, to the west of Taradale, is jointly owned by Hastings District Council and Napier City Council. It opened for operation in late 1988. The rubbish that goes to the landfill comes from the Hastings and Napier transfer stations, the kerbside rubbish collections, as well as from businesses using commercial collection companies.

We are currently looking for a Landfill Operator to join our team. Thist position involves working at Omarunui Landfill and other Hastings District Council operated refuse and recycling facilities as required and you will be responsible for driving and operating heavy earth-moving equipment, as well as daily maintenance of the facilities and other infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities of the position will include:

• Working alongside staff across all Landfill Operations.
• Operation of Compactors, Excavators and Loaders - as well as smaller plant items such as Watercart Trucks, Tractors and 4 x 4 ATV Vehicles.
• Operation and use of plastic pipe electrofusion and butt-welding equipment for the landfill gas extraction system.
• Recording and monitoring records as required by resource consents.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Hold a full Class 2 License (NZ) W, T & R..
• Have relevant experience in operating earth-moving equipment (preferred at least 2-3 years of experience in the construction and earth-moving industry).
• Be a physically fit team player, motivated and reliable, some manual laboring tasks expected and required.
• Have excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Able to work a minimum guaranteed 45 hour, 5 day work week including Saturdays and public holidays work as and when required.
