At the New Zealand Security Intelligence (NZSIS) | Te Pa Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect and analyse intelligence and security to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.
The role:
The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) is currently recruiting for an Operations Officer in Auckland. We are looking for a highly talented and professional individual with a range of life experiences to work within this diverse and rewarding area of our organisation.
The role of the Operations Officer is to be the central node connecting the investigative arm of NZSIS with deployed, operational teams. This role enables the flow of information between these arms and is directly involved in the planning, operation and post-analysis phases of operational work undertaken by NZSIS. This role would suit someone seeking to take on a role that is dynamic, challenging and exciting.
What we are looking for:
To be successful in this role, you will need to be resilient, able to work in a high-pressure environment, and be committed and enthusiastic about the role of the NZSIS. You will be comfortable working in a team environment and also alone, with an ability to multitask being crucial. Working in a dynamic operational environment, you will be organised, forward-thinking and proactive in nature. These attributes are key during periods of intense and fast-paced activity that come as part of the job.
It would be incredibly beneficial if you have prior experience in an operational control centre or communications centre environment. The successful candidate will undertake a comprehensive training programme including on-the-job experience.
You will be able to demonstrate the following qualities:
Excellent judgement and decision making
A high level of integrity and trustworthiness
Outstanding interpersonal and liaison skills
A strong sense of team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self-management, with a good ability to prioritise tasks in the face of a demanding workload
An appreciation for technology and the ability to learn new systems and data sources
An ability to think ahead, multi-task, assess and prioritise information
Strong attention to detail and keen observation skills
Enthusiasm for ongoing training and learning opportunities
An awareness of, and interest in, current affairs and issues that affect New Zealand on a domestic and international level.
Please note that Operations Officers sometimes work unsociable hours. You may be required to work at any time of the day or night, which we know can be disruptive personal lives. To compensate, Operations Officers are provided with an additional allowance on top of their salary, to reflect any disruption on personal lives.
