Ngā Whakaaro Māori

R.I.S.E. Values

Ko te tohu o te mana ko te WHAKAMANA

The measure of your mana is in how you enhance the mana of others

Whakamana is a process of mutual respect and understanding. A whakamana process will help the Ministry engage well with Māori communities, with the intent of these engagements based on positive impact and high trust.

Respect

We value others and their contributions.

  • We share our knowledge and experience generously.
  • We work together towards shared goals.
  • We respect diversity and support one another.

Kia TOKA TŪ moana

Be steadfast, be like a rock in the ocean

Toka tū means to be solid in our foundations and to maintain the integrity of the Ministry. Toka tū can also refer to the integrity or bond of our word, internally and externally.

Integrity

We are honest and open.

  • We take personal responsibility.
  • We have high professional standards.
  • We are fair and impartial.

Kia manawa tītī

Have great perseverance, have the heart of the mutton bird

ĀKINA literally means encouragement. The concept of ākina is about doing what needs to be done without praise or the need to be recognised. It is also about service and doing the jobs that no one wants to do.

Service

We deliver results.

  • We understand and meet the needs of those to whom we provide services.
  • We take good care of relationships.
  • We meet time frames we have agreed to.

Kaua mā te waewae tutuki engari mā te ūpoko pakaru

Do not be dissuaded by little falls, fight to the bitter end

EKE PANUKU literally means to successfully overcome. It is about going above and beyond, pursuing excellence in all that we do for the people that we engage with and serve.

Excellence

We focus on quality.

  • We focus on finding solutions.
  • We encourage innovation to achieve better results.
  • We acknowledge our achievements and successes.
