The Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing interior and exterior surfaces to a professional standard. This role contributes to the high-quality appearance, protection, and durability of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling cracks, repairing holes, and applying sealants or primers.
- Mix, match, and apply paints, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and protective coatings to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.
- Apply paint using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to achieve a smooth and durable finish.
- Protect floors, furniture, and adjacent surfaces using drop cloths, masking, and protective coverings.
- Ensure proper drying times and apply multiple coats as required by project specifications.
- Read and interpret building plans and job specifications to determine colour schemes and finishes.
- Maintain and clean painting tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Adhere to health and safety procedures, including safe use of paints, solvents, and ladders/scaffolding.
- Work independently or as part of a team to meet deadlines across multiple Auckland-based project sites.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience as a professional painter (residential or commercial).
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation techniques, painting methods, and finishing standards.
- Ability to use brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to achieve high-quality finishes.
- Familiarity with New Zealand workplace health & safety practices.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to meet project deadlines.
- Physically fit, with the ability to perform manual labour, lift equipment, and work at heights.
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable transport preferred.

- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Safely handle paints, thinners, solvents, and other hazardous materials.
- Immediately report any hazards, incidents, or unsafe practices.

- This is a full-time role, with a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week.

Pay: $27.00 – $37.00 per hour
