He angitutanga | About the role

As Ranger Community, you will support the Maniapoto District Team and Regional Community Team in the delivery of statutory work (permissions, planning, land management) and working closely with iwi.

You will be partnering with a variety of stakeholders. In this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality analysis and reporting on permissions for activities, including guiding, aircraft landings, sporting events, wildlife research, and marine mammal interactions, as well as Resource Management Act (RMA) applications and statutory land management issues.
  • Engage with Treaty Partners, including multiple iwi entities, on permissions and related matters.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with local permit holders.
  • Collaborate with local conservation groups to support their efforts.
  • Plan and organise community conservation events, such as Conservation Week.
  • Work with colleagues and other agencies across district boundaries on statutory and collaborative projects.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team member with excellent people skills to deliver on the Department's community work.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to write accurate, clear, and concise reports.
  • A `can do' attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach
  • Experience working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.
  • The ability to engage with organisations, community groups and private landowners effectively and positively.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Tech savvy skills with ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments using initiative and task prioritisation
  • A passion for protecting the environment and connecting others with conservation
  • Full New Zealand Driver's Licence.
