Mo te tunga | About the role
You will provide both strategic and operational security support across the organisation. Focusing on developing and implementing security policies, frameworks, and best practices, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. A key aspect is proactive engagement and relationship-building with stakeholders, including staff and union representatives, to foster a culture of security awareness and continuous improvement. You will offer expert advice, contribute to strategic planning, and collaborate closely with the Health, Safety and Security team. Responsibilities also include overseeing security reporting, managing organisational risks, and developing tools to identify and mitigate potential threats.

Key requirements of the role include:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in security in a diverse environment is essential
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills with a proven ability to negotiate and influence
- Demonstrated experience in the application of the Government Protective Security Requirements PSR.
- Able to personally cope with ambiguity and change
- Demonstrated experience in advising and supporting people at all levels of large complex organisations
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga M ori, and Pacific peoples' culture
Note: To hold this position, you must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET government security clearance. In order to achieve this you must be a New Zealand citizen or resident who has resided continuously in this country for 10 years, OR a citizen of Australia, Canada, The United Kingdom, or The United States of America; and have resided continuously in one or more of those countries for the past 10 years prior to application, with a background history which is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a high level.
