MBIE partners with a wide range of Crown entities, statutory boards, and Crown companies to deliver on the Government's economic and regulatory objectives. These include regulators like the Financial Markets Authority, WorkSafe New Zealand and the Electricity Authority, as well as delivery agencies such as New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Tourism New Zealand.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Advisor to join our Economic Regulatory Performance team. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills to influence the performance and governance of some of New Zealand's most significant public entities.

Skills and Experience Required

We're looking for someone with at least five years' experience in a relevant field, such as public sector performance, investment analysis, regulation, or strategic advisory roles.

Ideally you will be a strategic thinker with a good understanding of Crown entity monitoring and/or regulators in order to provide quality analysis and advice to the Ministers. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be pragmatic when resolving complex issues.



We are keen to hear from you if you can bring:

  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in relation to financial analysis for business performance, commercial experience is desirable.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Experience working in complex environments, ideally with both public and commercial sector exposure.
  • An understanding of regulatory systems.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to convey complex issues clearly, delivering high quality advice with little supervision.
  • Experience leading significant projects independently.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and resilience in managing shifting priorities and complex challenges.
  • Experience briefing Ministers, Cabinet, or Select Committees is an advantage.
  • A collaborative approach, with a willingness to share knowledge and mentor others.
