The Operational Policy and Regulatory Systems team is a shared service within the Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery Group (TWSD) - the operational arm of MBIE. We work with a range of teams within TWSD and across MBIE on a wide variety of interesting projects.
Our work spans across the operational policy spectrum, from regulatory change to supporting implementation of legislation. This means that you will get exposure to a range of projects, from machinery of government processes, such as fees reviews, Budget bids and omnibus Bills, through to the design and development of services for New Zealanders.
Due to recent promotions within the team, we have a permanent position and two fixed term positions (for six months and twelve months) available. Please indicate on your cover letter if you have a preference between the roles.
The successful applicant will have solid policy and analytical skills, and an enthusiasm for understanding regulatory systems. As a Senior Advisor, you will work with autonomy in a collaborative and collegial team, building strong relationships and leading others to deliver complex projects.
Some recent examples of our work include:
- ; Establishing the New Zealand Claims Resolution Service in response to the Earthquake Commission Inquiry.
- ; Reviewing the fees for the Motor Vehicle Traders and Plant Variety Rights regimes.
- ; Developing an internal compliance approach for the Unit Titles regulatory system.

- ; Must have the right to work and live in New Zealand.
