About the Role
We have an opportunity to join the National Public Health Service (NPHS) Intelligence Directorate as a Senior Analyst in the Evidence and Determinants team. This is a permanent, full-time role.
This role provides strong technical or professional subject matter and tools expertise, data analysis, and interpretation in relevant areas and contributes to engagement with stakeholders to assist in making informed evidence-based recommendations and decisions. Our team aims to support NPHS kaimahi to access data and information through products and self-service tools at national and regional levels and develop the public health evidence base. You will contribute to and lead creation of insights and products for key NPHS health behaviour goals including reducing alcohol-related harm, promoting smokefree, good nutrition and physical activity and mental wellbeing.

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
About you
You are someone with an understanding of and ability to select, adapt and use a growing range of frameworks, principles, software, tools and methods, and apply them appropriately to empower NPHS kaimahi. You're able to apply critical thinking and use sound judgement to develop options, products and provide advice.
- A relevant graduate or post-graduate qualification in public health, psychology, information technology, statistics, data management, data analytics, data science or similar, or equivalent work experience
- Three to five years of experience using quantitative tools, research/evaluation techniques, practices and principles to support decision-making and insights.
- Experience using relevant analytical tools for creating and sharing insights and data such as SQL, R, Python, R-Shiny, PowerBI, Tableau, and/or Qlik.
- Ability to work strategically, uncover stakeholder needs and develop appropriate solutions, including new products
- Analytical and technical skills to source, collect, interpret and summarise relevant data in a systematic way to create useful products for NPHS kaimahi, and to interpret and explain implications
- Advanced technical writing, oral and presentation skills to communicate clearly and concisely in a range of formats, to suit a range of audiences (technical and non-technical)
- Experience building and maintaining websites, dashboards, and/or other applications for interactively display data and information
