Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With

You will be reporting to the Director of Risk and Assurance and will work closely with a number of key stakeholders across the University. The Risk and Assurance team is a small, dedicated team of subject matter experts in risk, insurance, and assurance that strives to support and improve the effectiveness of the University's risk management and controls environment. The Risk and Assurance team is part of the Planning, Finance and Digital Services (PFDS) Department.

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
You will lead the development and delivery of independent, objective audits and advisory services to assess and improve the effectiveness of the University's governance, risk management, and control processes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and managing the annual Internal Audit Programme, in conjunction with Internal Audit partners
  • Delivering special and/or ad hoc UC audits and reviews
  • Testing of internal controls, risk management, governance, and legislative compliance
  • Managing fraud and corruption control policies, processes, and training
  • Conducting in-flight and post-implementation reviews of strategic projects
  • Communicating audit findings, risks, and recommendations to senior management and governance committees
  • Maintaining excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Mōu | Who You Are

You will be an experienced Auditor with at least eight years of internal auditing experience, ideally within higher education, public sector, or not-for-profit in New Zealand. You will also have:

  • Relevant professional certification (i.e., Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor)
  • A Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand's regulatory environment and relevant legislation
  • Experience in auditing controls and assessing their effectiveness
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, report writing, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis, audit tools, and project management software
