As a Senior Compliance Adviser in our Fair Trading branch, you'll play a key role in leading complex compliance initiatives, mentoring team members, and influencing positive behavioural change across industries.
This is a permanent opportunity in our Tamaki Makaurau or Te Whanganui-a-Tara office.
Mo te turanga | About the role
As a Senior Compliance Adviser, you'll lead regulatory engagement and initiatives that improve trader compliance with the Fair Trading Act. You'll work directly with businesses and industry groups, using your analytical and investigative skills to identify emerging issues, manage projects, and contribute to outreach and policy development.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently while also collaborating across teams, and who brings a strategic mindset to problem-solving and achieving compliance.
What you'll do:
- Lead and deliver targeted compliance projects and activity.
- Engage with traders to improve understanding and adherence to the law.
- Identify and analyse trends and emerging compliance risks.
- Mentor and support Compliance Advisers to build capability.
- Contribute to outreach, education, and operational policy initiatives.
- Provide high-quality reporting and insights to inform Commission priorities.
The indicative salary range for this role is $104,400 - $122,824 plus 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects their individual skills, experience, and internal relativities across the organisation.

You are a confident communicator and critical thinker with a strong understanding of regulatory environments.
You bring:
- Experience in compliance, investigations, or regulatory roles.
- Strong knowledge of the Fair Trading Act or similar legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and influence behavioural change.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- A degree in law, economics, commerce, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
You'll be valued for your ability to work across teams, build trusted relationships, and contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture.
