Are you ready to build the future of retail with one of New Zealand’s most iconic brands? As a Senior Software Engineer in our Digital Engineering team, you'll be part of an ambitious transformation journey as we evolve Foodstuffs North Island into a truly digital, customer-led co-op. We’re blending the digital and physical worlds to create new value for our customers—fast, scalable, and seriously impactful.
You won’t just write beautiful code (though we’ll expect plenty of that!)—you’ll also shape the way we work, mentor others, solve complex challenges, and be a key player in bringing our tech vision to life. This is your chance to leave a real mark while building solutions that reach millions of Kiwis. And because we build it, we own it—so you will also participate in our on-call roster to help support the software you create.
In this role, you will:- Craft high-quality, high-performance, and well-tested code that scales with ease- Lead by example—mentoring others, reviewing code, and promoting engineering best practices- Work closely with product and business stakeholders to understand and deliver what matters most- Help drive continuous improvement, reducing technical debt and streamlining our tech stack- Collaborate across squads and with DevOps to deliver smart, secure, and reliable software

You’re an experienced software engineer who’s passionate about building high-quality, scalable solutions that make a real impact. With a strong technical foundation and a sharp eye for detail, you take pride in delivering clean, maintainable code and designing systems that stand the test of time. You thrive in collaborative environments, love solving complex problems, and bring a mindset of continuous improvement to everything you do.
Whether you’ve worked in enterprise settings, fast-paced start-ups, or consulting gigs, you know how to adapt, deliver across the full software lifecycle, and bring real value to the table. You're also someone who takes ownership—of your code, your craft, and your contribution to the team.
You’ll bring:- A bachelor’s degree in software development or equivalent practical experience- 7+ years of hands-on programming experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and React Native- A strong commitment to high-quality engineering standards and practices- Proven experience delivering software from idea to production across a range of settings- A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset with a passion for continuous learning
