Job Description
Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying surveying looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect internship opportunity for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.
This paid internship opportunity will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) and will work in our talented underground surveying team, on-site at Macraes. Working a roster of 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7am – 4:30pm daily.
What will you be doing?
- Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
- Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process
- Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements
Specific project work will involve:
This role will see you assisting to the production surveyor across various projects of the underground department, involving the streamlining of spatial data capture and delivery to the broader operation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the facilitation of "mine production plans", through surveying activities
- Helping with the setout of development headings & product blast brings, prior to drill & blast activity ensuring this is all achieved to the highest safety standards
- Assist with daily planning of surveying activities, to maximise gold production
- Pickup and setout of geological and geotechnical structural markups, working collaboratively with other departments
- Working with surveyors from the open pit to share data and continuous improvement of processes
Qualifications
- Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)
- Available across Nov-February 2025/26
- In your 2nd last or final year of study in Surveying
- Have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru and surrounds, and happy to bus to site daily
- Curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for problem solving
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
