We're looking for a strategic, grounded leader to join Te Kawa Mataaho as an Assistant Commissioner in our Public Sector Performance Group. This is a unique opportunity to support the Public Service Commissioner in leading the system, and to work directly with chief executives to lift performance and deliver better outcomes for New Zealanders.
About the role
As an Assistant Commissioner, you'll build trusted relationships with chief executives, Ministers, and system leaders. You'll provide honest advice, help navigate complex challenges, and support leaders to succeed in their roles. You'll also play a key part in driving system-wide change-supporting the delivery of Government priorities, including Government Targets, and helping the public service adapt to future needs.
About you
We are looking for:
- a senior leader with experience across policy, operations, or strategic delivery
- someone who builds strong relationships and works well across boundaries
- a clear thinker who can see the big picture and act with integrity
- working collaboratively with leaders across the Public Service to achieve system, sector and agency performance improvement
- working on systemic issues, system wide policy and operational reforms, or strategic opportunities where the Commission can add value to system performance.

This position sits within the Public Sector Performance group which works with chief executives, agencies, and sectors to drive performance across the Public Sector. This position reports to the Deputy Public Service Commissioner | Deputy Chief Executive Public Sector Performance.

Remuneration
The full range for the band is 234,631 to $345,200. We typically look to appoint to role between $234,631 to 303,359, depending on skills and experience.

Requirements
