The opportunity:
As a Department Manager with our Palmerston North Traffic Team, you will you are responsible for a single function within a division. Department Managers coordinate all on site-foreman, employees, plant resources and subcontractor teams. You could be involved in large projects in scope/size or multiple smaller projects.
In addition to the above you will:
- Price work and undertake preparation of tenders / quotes / estimates and negotiating works following standard procedures.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with work instructions, client specifications or standards prepared for a particular job
- Ensure your department staff are provided with leadership and guidance with co-ordination and monitoring of department projects and activities, including dissemination of relevant strategic and business vision.
- Prepare business plans, capex, and budgets according to schedule and agreed with your Divisional Manager.
- Monitor industry trends and developments and recommend new techniques and methods of production and operation.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- BE or NZCE or a minimum 5 years relevant industry experience
- Familiar with contract legislation and standards ie: NZS 3910, Construction Contracts Act, NEC Contracts
- Understanding of operational management including Human Resources, Financial, Administration, Technical (engineering) and Constructability, plus understanding of job pricing including materials, labour and plant and associated margin/ profit calculations
- You will also be a supportive and collaborative leader with a passion for developing and growing talent and have a strong financial and business acumen.
