ASSISTANT SITE SAFETY MANAGER
Waipa Mill, Red Stag Timber - Rotorua
Located 5 minutes south of the Rotorua CBD, Red Stag Timber operates Waipa Mill, New Zealand’s largest timber manufacturing site. Our company is committed to providing a safe workplace for our team of 400+ staff and contractors, achieved by maintaining sound safety systems to prevent harm. The business is focussed on further upgrades and installation of new plant and equipment, with various projects underway to increase our production capacity beyond currently 650,000m3 sawn timber/annum.
Increased workload and team changes have created an opportunity to introduce the new role of Assistant Site Safety Manager. Reporting on a day to day basis to the Site Safety Manager, this role is critical to the HR/HS team and operations, to provide monitoring and training, with a particular focus on supporting our night shift and weekend shift teams and contractors.
Hours of work are therefore aligned to these operations being Monday to Thursday 9.30am until 7.00pm, and a flexible 4hrs on a Friday, to assist with further training & site monitoring. If you are not able to work these hours, please do not apply.
Whilst we seek a mid-level HS Advisor/Coordinator candidate, this will be a long term career opportunity to advance into a senior safety role in future.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 5 years’ previous fulltime experience in an HS Advisor/Coordinator role preferably working on a heavy industrial site, and knowledge of timber processing is an advantage
- Knowledge of H&S legislation and industry standards, regulations and best practice guidelines
- Excellent interpersonal and investigation skills, both written & verbal along with the ability to train others
- A relevant NZQA recognised safety qualification at Diploma level, including assessments on NZ and Australian safety standards
- Other relevant safety training which could include work at height, confined space, MEWP, fire safety systems, contractor management, machine safety standards, adult education & training A proven track record as an effective & reliable Team Player, who is able to work in a busy team environment and deal with unexpected events if required
