About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic senior nurse. The Associate Director of Nursing – Mental Health is accountable for nursing professional and practice standards, ensuring staff safely and effectively meet the clinical care needs of patients and their whānau/ family. The Associate Director of Nursing will, in partnership with the Allied Health, Medical, and Operational leadership also be responsible for professional leadership, developing pathways and models of care, and furthering the specialism as a whole across the district and NGO partners.

Role Purpose

The Associate Director of Nursing (ADoN):

  • Is an integral part of the senior leadership team, contributing to and supporting a programme of transformational change and service integration
  • Works collaboratively across directorates and organisational boundaries to influence the nursing contribution to better outcomes for our communities
  • Supports and drives excellence in professional nursing standards of practice, workforce models and clinical governance to maximise the role of nursing in delivery of services and organisational strategy
  • Provides nursing leadership and support for planning, change and practice development to achieve patient/client centric, cost effective outcomes while advocating for appropriate financial and human resources to accomplish the agreed priorities
  • Ensures that quality systems are in place within and across services to measure and enhance nursing sensitive quality indicators and the delivery of care
  • Contributes to growing and developing front-line leadership, enabling clinicians and teams within the service to make informed decisions as close to the patient/client as possible

About you

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an experienced, dynamic and talented addictions leader with a well-developed ability to think critically and reflect using a “whole of systems” approach.
  • Be excited by change and passionate about improving services
  • Have proven track record in leadership roles within mental health nursing
  • Have demonstrable experience in leading large, complex change
  • Have excellent communication skills, including the ability to develop relationships rapidly with stakeholders.
