We are seeking a strategic and innovative Biosecurity Manager to lead our region’s biosecurity and pest management initiatives in safeguarding the environment, economic resilience, and community wellbeing from biosecurity threats.
Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role
As Biosecurity Manager, you will:
- Lead a high-performing team, enabling and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Lead the development and delivery of regional pest plans with a strong focus on protecting our environment, economy and communities from the impacts of high-risk pests.
- Oversee the implementation of biosecurity programmes within our terrestrial, freshwater, and marine environments.
- Collaborate and build strong partnerships with iwi and hapū, landowners, industry, community groups, and government agencies.
- Provide expert advice on biosecurity risks, policy, and operational best practice.
- Support community-led initiatives and education to build biosecurity awareness.
- Lead the development and implementation of biosecurity strategies and risk management plans for emerging pest threats to our region.
- Coordinate surveillance, early detection, and rapid response initiatives for invasive species.
- Manage regional incident response in the event of new-to-region biosecurity incursions.
Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- A tertiary degree in a Natural Resource related field
- Proven leadership experience in biosecurity, biodiversity, or natural resource management.
- A deep understanding of New Zealand’s native ecosystems and primary industries and the threats posed by invasive species.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly operational knowledge of the Biosecurity Act and Bay of Plenty Regional Pest Management Plan.
- Strong people leadership including demonstrating effective leadership of experienced teams delivering complex programmes across multiple domains & regions.
- Sound relationship management skills to build and maintain programme partnerships with other agencies, Iwi and industry.
- A strategic mindset and the ability to lead complex programmes delivering measurable outcomes.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management abilities.

The location of this role is flexible and can be based at either of our offices in Rotorua, Whakatāne or Tauranga.
