We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Building Control Officer to join our team at Gore District Council. If you have a background in building or construction and a keen eye for compliance, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact in our community.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring building work across the Gore District complies with the Building Act, Building Code, and relevant regulations. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your career, learn more about the ever-changing world of buildings, and contribute to projects that shape our district’s future.

In addition to the above you will:

  • Assess and process building consent applications in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and building standards
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to applicants, builders, and other stakeholders
  • Conduct research and analysis into building products and techniques
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Collaborate with other council departments to support safe and sustainable development
  • Engage with the public in a professional and helpful manner
  • Stay up to date with changes in legislation and building practices
  • Use digital tools and systems to manage workflows
  • Support continuous improvement in building control processes

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A qualification in building control surveying or other Regulation 18 compliant qualification (or a trades background with willingness to work towards one)
  • Experience in building control or construction
  • Sound knowledge of the NZ Building Act and Building Code
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Competency in using digital tools and systems
  • Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand

Why work for us

At Gore District Council, we’re committed to fostering a vibrant and sustainable future for our community. We offer:

  • A supportive and inclusive work environment
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth
  • The chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our residents
  • A team culture that values innovation, collaboration, and excellence

If this sounds like an opportunity for you, then we would love to hear from you!
