The Opportunity
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Building Control Officer to join our team at Gore District Council. If you have a background in building or construction and a keen eye for compliance, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact in our community.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring building work across the Gore District complies with the Building Act, Building Code, and relevant regulations. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your career, learn more about the ever-changing world of buildings, and contribute to projects that shape our district’s future.
In addition to the above you will:
- Assess and process building consent applications in accordance with statutory requirements
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and building standards
- Provide technical advice and guidance to applicants, builders, and other stakeholders
- Conduct research and analysis into building products and techniques
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Collaborate with other council departments to support safe and sustainable development
- Engage with the public in a professional and helpful manner
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation and building practices
- Use digital tools and systems to manage workflows
- Support continuous improvement in building control processes
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A qualification in building control surveying or other Regulation 18 compliant qualification (or a trades background with willingness to work towards one)
- Experience in building control or construction
- Sound knowledge of the NZ Building Act and Building Code
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Competency in using digital tools and systems
- Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand
