About the Role

Health New Zealand - Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty has an exciting and rare opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to work in the beautiful Bay of Plenty.

The Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients in our general medical hospital and outpatient clinic. As a Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist (C-L Psychiatrist), being the interface between psychiatry and other areas of medicine, you will work in the general hospital, collaborating with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to assess and manage psychiatric conditions and psychological and behavioural aspects in patients with complex medical and surgical illnesses.

The role will be providing specialist assessment and treatment across the continuum of care which includes general hospital-based services (Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service) (CLP) and community-based care (Home Based Treatment) (HBT). CLP, HBT and Acute Care are strongly linked services.

We are a teaching hospital with Psychiatric Registrars Training through the Upper Central North Island (UCNI) training scheme and have 5th and 6th year medical students through the University of Auckland.

While this is a 0.4FTE position, there would be an opportunity for the role to be combined with our 0.6FTE community-based care (Home Based Treatment) vacancy. You can read more about this role here
