Worker Type:
PermanentHere at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."
We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.
Ko mātou tēnei | This is Us
We’re looking for a Designer to join BNZ’s in-house Design team.
We’re a diverse, talented bunch of humans united by a common goal: improving the financial wellbeing of all New Zealanders. It’s big work, and we need more good people to help us do it.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We sat down with our UX Design Director (over coffee, of course) and asked him what they’re looking for in a Designer:
What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
Design end-to-end digital experiences, from early concepts and customer journeys through to high-fidelity UI
Translate customer and business needs into clean, clear and user-friendly solutions
Contribute to our Design System, helping shape and evolve patterns and components that scale beautifully across BNZ
Collaborate with product owners, engineers, researchers, and content designers to bring ideas to life (and make them better along the way)
Use research and data to inform your work, and champion the needs of our customers in every decision
Prototype, test and iterate – you’ll learn quickly what works (and what doesn’t)
Participate in regular design critiques with the wider team, expect to give and receive thoughtful, constructive feedback
Help raise the bar for design craft, accessibility and consistency across our products
Balance speed and quality. We value momentum just as much as polish
What is the team culture and environment like?
We’re passionate about what we do and we’re proud of the impact we make. We’re the kind of people who enjoy a challenge, lean into ambiguity, and love it when good design makes something genuinely better.
We’re also friendly, collaborative, and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We laugh a lot, we care a lot, and yes, we consume too much coffee, tea and probably too much chocolate too.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
You get to work on things that matter for people across Aotearoa. And you get to do that with some of the best humans around: smart, generous designers who care deeply about the work and each other.
The projects are meaningful, the problems are meaty, and there’s room to grow.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?
You’ve shipped digital products that solve real problems (and have a portfolio to prove it)
You’re comfortable with complexity, and love turning it into clarity
You care about craft and consistency, and the people using your designs
You think in systems, not just screens
You collaborate well with others and give/receive feedback with empathy and openness
You’re curious, humble, and always looking to grow your skills
What’s your favourite thing about working at BNZ?
6 weeks of annual leave (yes, really)
Hybrid working, a couple of days at home is fine, but honestly our waterfront offices are hard to leave
Great staff banking and insurance perks
A strong, supportive design culture that values quality, curiosity and good humans
The chance to make a genuine impact on New Zealanders’ lives
Did we mention the 6 weeks of leave?
If you’re ready to join a team where you can do your best work, on real problems, with people who care, we’d love to hear from you.
Nau Mai ki te Pēke o Aotearoa | Come to the Bank of New Zealand
This is an exciting opportunity to join us! We're bold thinkers who are taking brave steps to create a company that people want to work for, and customers want to bank with. If you're ready to join a fun organisation where we are proud of our culture and how we are helping New Zealander's to 'Find their way', then show your interest by submitting your application - we can't wait to read it.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini" - Success is not the work of an individual, but the work of many.”
Closing Date: 19 July 2025
