We’re looking for Election Support Officers to help deliver a smooth and accessible voting experience for our community. This short-term, fixed-term opportunity runs from early September through 10 October and is perfect if you’re people-focused, organised, and keen to play a part in the democratic process. You’ll assist voters in person, issue and process special voting documents accurately, and help keep our election operations running smoothly and professionally.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
- Support voters who need special voting documents, including those on the unpublished roll, who haven’t received voting papers, or who need to vote in person.
- Use online tools and devices to issue and process voting documents and declarations accurately and confidentially.
- Provide a welcoming, accessible environment for all voters, including those with mobility or language needs.
- Maintain clear records, follow procedures, and uphold the integrity and impartiality of the voting process.

- Proven customer service experience with a friendly, professional approach.
- Ability and willingness to engage with and assist diverse members of the community.
- Strong attention to detail when handling important documents and following procedures.
We have a range of short-term roles available
- Full-time option: 40 hours/week at the Napier Customer Service Centre, Mon–Fri, 8:30–5pm. Starts 22 Sept to 10 Oct.
- Part-time option: 32 hours/week at Taradale Library, Wed–Sat, 9–5. Starts 10 Sept to 10 Oct.
- Short shifts: 9 hours/week on the Voter Van, Mon/Wed/Fri, 11–2pm (driver’s licence required). Starts 22 Sept to 10 Oct.

You’ll be paid between $23.50 and $30 per hour, depending on your experience, with 8% in lieu of annual leave.
