What you'll do:
This internship is open to candidates who are currently enrolled at university and whakapapa to Ngāi Tahu, with a preference given to candidates with connections to Arowhenua, Waihao and Moeraki Rūnaka.
You'll be based in Ōtautahi in a close-knit, fun office of 10 people. We know stepping into the corporate world can be daunting — but we're an easy-going, supportive team who genuinely enjoy our jobs! We care about each other's wellbeing and success, and we love a good laugh along the way.
You'll report to the Environmental Manager - South Island Renewables, and work alongside a passionate team focused on hydro generation in Te Manahuna / Mackenzie.

- Time for whanaungatanga with your fellow interns, including travel to Hamilton for workshops and site tours as a rōpū
- Opportunities to travel to our Takapō Power Scheme and corporate offices in Hamilton and Auckland
- Hands-on experience contributing to environmental management and community-focussed workstreams
- Insights into the Takapō Power Scheme's role in Aotearoa's energy future.
Internship period: 10th November 2025 to 12th February 2026, with some flexibility provided (400 hours to be completed).
What you'll need:
- Ideally you have enrolled in a relevant BSc or Environmental Planning degree however other relevant tertiary courses will be considered
- A preference will be given to 3rd year + students with an interest in Environmental Science / Management, Physical Geography or Planning
- Previous workplace experience is desirable but not essential
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal are essential
- Most importantly you'll be keen to learn with a positive attitude and willingness to contribute
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook)
- A Full Drivers Licence is desirable
- Available for the whole internship duration from November 2025 - February 2026.
