Social Worker – Family Start (Fixed Term until June 2026)

Support Tamariki | Champion Whānau | Make a Difference Every Day

We are looking for a creative and passionate Social Worker to join our supportive Family Start team at Te Kupenga, Avondale. This is a fixed-term role until June 2026.

About Us

ATWC is a well-established Charitable Trust with over 160 years of service to families in our community. Guided by the values of Hope & Aroha, Compassion & Respect, Whanaungatanga, Stewardship, Integrity & Professionalism, we deliver multi-disciplinary services that empower tamariki and whānau across Auckland.

About the Role

The Family Start programme is a highly evidence-based, intensive home-visiting service that works alongside families with children aged 0–5 years. Families can be referred from pregnancy until a baby is 12 months old.

This role supports parents with child development, health, education, and safety, while responding to a wide range of needs including trauma, mental health, addictions, parenting, and family relationships. ATWC recognises that families are the experts of their own lives, and we walk alongside them with holistic and culturally responsive support.

This position is eligible for Social Work Pay Equity based on a 37.5 hour working week.

What We’re Looking For

To be considered, you will need to have a Social Work qualification and be registered (or working towards registration) with the SWRB. You will also need to:

  • Demonstrate cultural humility and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles in all areas of practice
  • Have experience working with children and families (preferred)
  • Understand the impacts of trauma, family violence, addictions, and mental health (advantageous)
  • Possess excellent communication skills – speakers of multiple languages are encouraged to apply
  • Hold a full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand

Desired Attributes

  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse cultures
  • Solution-focused, compassionate, and committed to whānau wellbeing
  • Passion for making a difference in the lives of children and families

What ATWC Offers

  • A high trust, supportive team environment
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities, including a New Graduate programme
  • SWRB registration and annual practising certificate covered
  • Paid external supervision sessions
  • Up to 15 days additional gifted leave per year (pro-rata to fixed term contract)

How to Apply

If you are passionate about improving the wellbeing and safety of tamariki and whānau, and want to be part of a dynamic, values-driven organisation, we’d love to hear from you!

Please send your CV and cover letter to: hr@atwc.org.nz

Applications close on Thursday, 11 September 2025.

Only applicants legally entitled to work in New Zealand will be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
