The role sits on the executive leadership team, reporting to the Chief Executive. The key focus of the role is to ensure Health New Zealand has a clear strategic direction for how healthcare services need to evolve, to ensure timely, quality healthcare is delivered in a sustainable way.
In addition to leading strategy, this role oversees the development of a robust, transparent, and effective performance management system that supports strategic delivery, financial control, and continuous improvement across the health system
This role has three core elements:
- Leading the strategy function of Health NZ. This includes responsibility for meeting the statutory planning and accountability obligations of Health NZ, as well as overseeing the alignment and integration of medium-to-long-term national strategies and plans to provide an integrated view of how healthcare services need to evolve to respond to the challenges of the future.
- Leading the performance function in partnership with regional and local leads. Specifically, you will ensure:
- constructive challenge – undertaking analysis and facilitating integrated performance discussions to hold the business to account for delivery (including the delivery of enabling functions), and
- performance improvement – supporting the business to build a performance culture. This involves intervening when required to turn performance around, identifying areas of best practice for others to learn from, championing continuous improvement and innovation, and supporting regions and districts (including enabling functions) to build capability and lift performance
