Leighs Construction
Christchurch

We’re looking for a Summer Intern with an interest in Design Management to join our team on a fixed term basis between November 2025 – February 2026.

About the role:

Based in the South Island, you’ll join our Design Team, working under the guidance of our Head of Design and supported by the wider team.

You’ll be part of a real project team, working alongside experienced professionals who are passionate about delivering innovative and well-coordinated construction outcomes. This is your opportunity to see how your design and construction studies come to life—on-site, in the office, and across real-world projects.

As a Design Management Summer Intern, you will:

  • Be immersed in the day-to-day of a fast-paced construction environment with a focus on design management
  • Contribute to real projects from your first week, gaining hands-on experience in planning and coordination
  • Learn how design integrates into the broader project lifecycle within a leading construction company
  • Shadow and collaborate with experienced professionals across site and office settings
  • Build your confidence and develop practical skills with support from mentors and your wider team

What We’re Looking For (No Experience Needed!)

To be eligible, you’ll be in your first or second year of tertiary study in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.

We are looking for students who are:

  • At least one year into their studies by the end of 2025
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand over the summer
  • Ready to work 45 hours per week from mid-November to late February

You’ll bring a proactive attitude and a willingness to learn. You communicate well, collaborate effectively, and aren’t afraid to ask questions. Curiosity, commitment, and a bit of grit will take you far.

What we offer:

Joining Leighs means more than just summer work — it’s the first step in your career journey. Many of our past interns have gone on to join our Future Leaders Programme, where they’ve built long-term careers in project leadership, commercial management, and more.

  • Paid, fixed-term employment
  • Real work experience that builds your CV and confidence
  • Supportive mentoring from industry professionals
  • Opportunities to connect with others on the same journey
  • A place where you can make a meaningful impact from week one
