Job Description

Who is VTS?
Vector is collaborating with AWS and other leading global technology firms right here in New Zealand to take on some of the world’s most significant energy challenges. In 2020, an alliance was formed between Vector and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to co-develop a cloud-native data platform: Diverge. This team has evolved to become Vector Technology Services (VTS), a subsidiary of Vector, New Zealand's largest distributor of electricity and gas.

Our mission: revolutionise how energy data is managed, accessed, and used—globally. Through strategic partnerships, global collaboration, and transformative technology, we create a new energy future that champions:

• Decarbonisation
• Decentralisation
• Democratisation
• Digitalisation

About the opportunity

This is more than a development role—it’s a chance to lead technical outcomes that accelerate energy transformation. As a Tech Lead in our high-performing engineering team, you’ll:

• Guide architecture, design, and implementation with support from Principal Engineers and/or Implementation Architect.
• Provide coaching and technical leadership across engineering practices
• Inspire developers by sharing knowledge and facilitating engineering excellence
• Collaborate with AWS and global stakeholders to build cloud-native platforms
• Ensure code quality, scalability, and security in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment

Who are we looking for?’

We’re after a seasoned Java engineer and proactive problem-solver who thrives in ambiguity and is energised by global impact.

• 10+ years of Java and Spring Boot expertise
• Experience designing modern full-stack platforms
• Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring ability
• Deep experience with AWS (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, IAM, etc.)
• Advocate of Agile practices (Scrum), DevOps, and CI/CD
• Committed to TDD/BDD and automated testing methodologies
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence outcomes across teams

Why Join VTS?

At VTS, we offer more than just a job—we provide opportunities to work on impactful projects, collaborate with leading technology firms, and contribute to shaping the future of energy. Whether you're driven by global-scale challenges, the chance to leave a lasting legacy in New Zealand, or the opportunity to grow in an innovative and transformative sector, VTS is the place to build your career.
