Are you passionate about technology and delivering great customer service?

We're looking for a Junior Service Desk Officer to join our IT team and be the first point of contact for staff needing technical support in this full-time two-year fixed-term position

About our District - Our mission is to make our communities better and this role will play a key part in achieving this. We are located in a tranquil area of New Zealand offering some of the best access to the great outdoors. We also boast attractive housing prices for your town, village or rural lifestyle and we are within commuting distance to larger centres.

About our Organisation - We are an energetic and progressive, values-based organisation, which is dedicated to providing quality services and facilities for our communities. We place strong emphasis on our organisational culture, which in turn creates strong engagement across our team. We employ people with a 'Can Do' attitude who want to work for a united organisation with a strong sense of family that is proud to serve its communities.

At STDC, we offer a proven "best place to work" environment, access to a sick leave bank, flexible working opportunities and retention incentive benefit upon four years of employment. About the Role - This is a two-year fixed-term position. In this role, you'll provide first-level IT assistance via phone, email, and in-person interactions, helping resolve routine issues and ensuring staff have the tools they need to work efficiently. You'll be responsible for logging and tracking service requests, assisting with user account setup, performing basic device configurations, and maintaining accurate IT asset records.

You'll follow established IT support processes, escalate more complex issues when needed, and play a key role in keeping our IT services running smoothly. A strong focus on providing friendly, timely, and professional support is essential.

Do you have what it takes? - This is a busy and varied role with opportunities to grow your skills. In addition to the core responsibilities, you'll collaborate with staff and management to troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues, monitor the service desk queue to ensure efficient triaging of incoming requests and assist in maintaining and managing hardware inventory, including tracking, restocking, and asset record-keeping. You will also support communication tools and end-user devices as part of your day-to-day tasks.

About You - You are a team player with strong communication skills and a passion for IT support. Ideally, you will have:

  • Foundational knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Basic experience with Microsoft 365, Windows 10/11, and SaaS applications used in modern workplaces
  • A basic understanding of networking concepts like IP addressing, Wi-Fi, and hybrid LAN/WAN/cloud environments
  • Familiarity with service desk or ticketing systems for call logging and issue tracking
  • Awareness of IT service management principles and standard support practices
  • Introductory experience with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) or Active Directory for user and device management
