Our Hautapu site is in the heart of the Waikato and has been a leader in dairy manufacturing for more than 130 years. It’s our headquarters for our protein and cheese technical teams and specialises in producing high value products such as casein, whey protein concentrate, hydrolysate, lactoferrin and milk protein concentrate as well as a wide range of cheeses including Organic, Colby, Edam, Gouda, Noble and Egmont.

Join our multi-functional Environmental team as an Environmental/Irrigation Operator and play a key part in ensuring Fonterra maintains compliance and performance to our environmental standards.
In this varied role, you will work alongside other Environmental Irrigation Operators at our off-site irrigation farms where you will be responsible for irrigation operations and monitoring and maintaining wastewater treatment equipment, ensuring the quality of our environmental discharges (wastewater) are compliant and operating in a sustainable manner. This will include a range of hands-on tasks as well as data entry, basic reporting, sampling (wastewater, soil and pasture). This is a crucial role for the success of our site operation, so you’ll need to be a strong communicator and someone who is flexible.
This is a Rostered Days (4 days on, 4 days off) position.

This role is amongst an ever-changing environment so you will be adaptable, willing to learn and have the ability to remain calm under pressure. To succeed in this role, you’ll have an eye for improvement, be tech savvy and have great problem-solving skills.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- Proactive and can-do attitude to get stuck in.
- Good communication skills and previous experience working in a team environment
- A mechanical aptitude and proficient computer/data entry skills
- Farming experience would be beneficial, but not essential.
- Experience operating agricultural machinery (Tractors, ATVs and utility vehicles)
- Full Class One drivers license.
- A high degree of fitness and physical capability.
