About the Role
Labtec is seeking an experienced and driven Laboratory Manager to lead the operations of our New Zealand laboratory, based in Auckland. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for overseeing all day-to-day lab functions while driving operational excellence, team development, client satisfaction, and financial performance.
With a strong focus on quality, continuous improvement, and safety, you will ensure efficient resource allocation, high-performing teams, and timely delivery of client results. You'll also play a key role in shaping the future of the lab through strategic planning, business development, and technical leadership.
You’ll also be responsible for:
- Managing laboratory operations, including workflow, instrumentation, and TAT performance
- Monitoring budgets, business plans, procurement and P&L outcomes
- Leading, mentoring, and developing your team with regular check-ins and development plans
- Maintaining client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and supporting marketing initiatives
- Ensuring compliance with IANZ and ISO standards, and leading audit readiness
- Driving continuous improvement across lab practices, safety, and systems
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a strong and collaborative leader who brings:
- A tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or a related discipline
- 10+ years of laboratory experience, including substantial time in supervisory or management roles
- Deep understanding of laboratory quality systems (IANZ, ISO 17025), WHSE, and continuous improvement practices
- A commercial mindset with experience in budgeting, reporting and business development
- Proven ability to coach, engage and develop high-performing teams
- Strong communication skills and confidence in engaging clients and stakeholders
