OTAGO BUSINESS SCHOOL | TE KURA PAKIHI
Otago Business School at the University of Otago invites applications for a permanent Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Pūkenga/Pūkenga Matua) position in Entrepreneurship for the beginning of the 2026 academic year.
Who we are/Ko wai mātou
The University of Otago is one of New Zealand’s largest and most research-intensive universities ranked in the top 1% in the QS World University ranking. The Otago Business School is AACSB- and EQUIS-accredited, and among the leadings business schools in Australasia.
Across its seven academic Departments, Otago Business School offers a range of thriving Undergraduate, Masters, PhD and DBA programmes. Like the rest of the University, Otago Business School is research intensive, but also fully committed to delivering a holistic learning experience that develops critical thinking and informed engagement among its students through teaching and supervision.
In 2022, Otago Business School launched a new and innovative degree program called the Bachelor of Entrepreneurship (BEntr). The BEntr has a flexible programme structure and a multidisciplinary focus. It’s designed for students interested in subject areas within Commerce, Arts, Science, and Health Sciences who also wish to specialise (major) in Entrepreneurship. The BEntr core consists of six Entrepreneurship papers (two papers in each year of study) plus two 300-level electives. In the core papers, we carefully balance learning the fundamentals and theory of entrepreneurial thinking and start-up methodologies through research-led teaching, with applied learning, entrepreneurial practice and engagement with communities, entrepreneurs and industry external to the classroom environment. It’s designed to accelerate ventures that address the world’s most pressing challenges.
We are committed to working closely with iwi and Māori organisations, and mātauraka Māori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution. We especially value our relationship with Ngai Tahu, the mana whenua within their takiwā of Te Waipounamu, and the University’s principal Treaty partner.
As the first cohort of BEntr students successfully graduate from the programme, and with growing demand and interest in entrepreneurship education, Otago Business School’s BEntr is ready for its next stage of growth.
