Our Law School

AUT's Law School (part of AUT's Faculty of Business, Economics and Law) comprises distinguished scholars and practitioners dedicated to mentoring the next generation of legal professionals, providing innovative and comprehensive legal education and research which impacts the legal landscape across New Zealand and the wider Pacific region. Our commitment to Tikanga (the principles and practices of Māori culture and values) and Te Aronui (AUT's Te Tiriti framework) is integrated into our curriculum and the way we work, ensuring that students gain a profound understanding of New Zealand's unique legal landscape. The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to make significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research and service.

We are open to expertise across areas relevant to our Law School, and are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to our teaching and/or research in:

  • Contract Law, Land Law, Trusts/Equity, Torts, Māori legal issues or Tikanga Māori

You'll teach across programmes as assigned by the Dean of Law. We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised. Your contributions to programme and course development will enhance our continuous-improvement focus and you will support embedding Tikanga Māori into New Zealand's law curriculum.

You will be expected to publish actively in your specialised field/s. We offer an excellent research environment with contestable research funds, and with guidance available from senior scholars. It is also expected that over time the successful candidate will seek external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.

You will have an open, engaging and collaborative attitude that is flexible to changing requirements. You will enhance the positive energy and collegiality within the Faculty and must embrace and value diversity and enjoy working inclusively with students and colleagues!

Qualification:

  • A minimum of a completed LLM.

Teaching and Learning:

  • An early career academic will ideally have at least some previous teaching assistant experience.
  • More experienced candidates will have previous lecturing experience, evidence of curriculum development and also preferably experience supervising Masters and/or PhD students.

Research and Scholarship:

  • An early career academic will have the basis of a solid research pipeline and a job market paper available.
  • More experienced candidates will already have a proven research track record with quality publications and ideally also success in external funding bids.

  • Term: The successful candidate will secure a permanent, full-time appointment.
  • Salary ranges: Lecturer - $92,567 to $110,166. Senior Lecturer - $113,413 to $148,295 (specific step within ranges commensurate with relevant skills and experience).
