Who we are - Ko wai mātou
The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) is New Zealand's conduct regulator for financial services. We actively engage with entities such as investment management firms, banks and insurers, ensuring their systems, policies, and practices reflect best-practice conduct — with good consumer outcomes at the forefront of everything they do.
The Role - Te Tūranga
As Manager, Deposit Taking, you'll lead a small but dedicated team of advisers and senior advisers responsible for the conduct regulation of New Zealand's Deposit Takers (i.e. Banks) and Non-bank Deposit Takers (such as Credit Unions and Building Societies). You'll support your team to take an outcomes-based approach to regulation, focused on driving good conduct and promoting fair outcomes for consumers and markets.
This role is first and foremost about empowering and developing your team and you'll provide day-to-day coaching, mentoring, operational oversight and pastoral care. In parallel, you'll contribute to shaping our strategic direction and regulatory approach - it's an exciting time for the team with the Conduct of Financial Institutions (CoFI) regime now live and as we prepare to support the transfer of credit regulation to the FMA. You will support engagement with the sector and ensure we stay ahead of sector developments and emerging conduct risks in the evolving deposit-taking landscape.
About You - Ō Pūkenga
As an experienced people leader or someone who has the capability, drive and passion to lead and develop people, you genuinely care about the growth and wellbeing of your team. You bring a collaborative and open leadership style that nurtures potential while providing the right balance of support and stretch to empower each member to thrive.
In addition to strong management experience, you'll bring a solid understanding of conduct regulation and a genuine drive for achieving good outcomes for consumers. We're open to different backgrounds, though experience within another regulatory agency or the banking/financial services industry will be an advantage.
