About the Role
The primary purpose of the National Care Pathways Clinical Lead, Northern, is to provide clinical expertise and leadership to the Care Pathways programme in the Northern Region.
This role involves building trusting relationships, locally, regionally and nationally, collaborating on opportunities for health system improvement, supporting the development of national and northern region pathway programme processes, maintaining quality and supporting clinician engagement.
The National Care Pathways Clinical Lead, Northern, ensures that the regional pathways platforms are relevant, up to date, reflect consensus guidance, and are useful for general practice and hospital clinicians. The National Care Pathways Clinical Lead, Northern, also plays a role in supporting the National Clinical Lead Community Care Pathways in ensuring that these pathways are aligned with national and regional health priorities, addressing gaps in service delivery, and promoting equity in healthcare.
About the Team & Service
Join a passionate and forward-thinking team dedicated to improving clinical care across Aotearoa through the Care Pathways programme. Based in the Northern Region and reporting to the National Manager Health Care Pathways, this role plays a key part in shaping national clinical standards by fostering strong relationships, mentoring regional clinical editors, and driving collaboration with experts and stakeholders. You'll represent the region in national strategic discussions and help ensure clinical risks are effectively managed, all while contributing to a service that supports safer, more consistent care for communities across the country.
This role is open to candidates across the Northern region, with a preference for this role to be based in Auckland.

Experience in the range of 5+ years in a complex health environment with the following demonstrated knowledge, skills and attributes:
- At least 3 years' experience in a similar clinical leadership role
- Currently working in clinical practice
- Qualified medical practitioner with a current annual practicing certificate
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of medical terminology, clinical guidelines, and evidence-based medicine
- Be able to triage information and feedback effectively, ensuring focused, aligned messaging with a view to efficient prioritisation of workload
- Ability to validate clinical information to ensure accuracy and relevance
- Capacity to identify and address challenges in the development and implementation of clinical pathways, ensuring they meet local practice needs and support the safe patient journey through the health system
