About the Role
An exciting opportunity as arisen to appoint a Nurse Educator (NE) within the Rehabilitation Inpatient Area (Ward 6) at Kenepuru Hospital. We are inviting applications from motivated nurses with sound experience in Inpatient Rehabilitation education. The role is primarily weekday-based, with occasional after-hours shifts to support staff orientation and education.
The NE works in close partnership with nursing leadership and the Workforce and Practice Development Unit to strengthen workforce capability through diverse clinical learning opportunities. This includes supporting pre-registration student placements, the Nurse Entry to Practice (NETP) programme, the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), and the Preceptor Programme.
This role requires adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the District, with flexibility to undertake additional tasks as required. The NE is also expected to actively contribute to the implementation of District and nursing strategic goals, while upholding the values of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley. A strong emphasis is placed on fostering excellence in nursing practice and education.
Collaboration is essential. The Kenepuru Rehabilitation NE will work alongside other Nurse Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists to develop shared educational resources and deliver training across the organisation as needed. A collaborative mindset is also key to engage clinical teams in delivering education, Promoting a shared responsibility for ongoing learning and development. The salary range for this role is NZNO collective agreement Senior Designated Nurses Grade 2 step 1-2 pro rata.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Kenepuru Rehabilitation (Ward 6) is a 20 bed ward that provides inpatient rehabilitation services for the Capital and Coast District at Kenepuru Hospital for people aged from 16 years. Examples of the types of patients who receive rehabilitation include stroke, complex neurological conditions, and patients recovering post neurosurgery as well as musculoskeletal and orthopaedic needs. Ward 7 the adjoining ward is a 21 bed ward that provides post-operative care and rehabilitation to surgical specialities including Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Vascular, Ophthalmology, Urology and Rehabilitation.
The Rehabilitation Service has a strong focus on interdisciplinary practice and this role will work in partnership with the Allied Health and the Medical Team to enhance patient care, health outcomes contributing to a streamlined and efficient patient journey.
The Nurse Educator role supports the nursing leadership team working closely with the CNS, ACNMS and CNM to enhance clinical leadership, and ensure the ward functions as a cohesive inpatient service. The role plays a key part in supporting nursing development, maintaining professional standards and driving quality initiatives.
The NE works in close partnership with the nursing leadership team, including the (ACNMS) and Charge Nurse Manager (CNM), to strengthen clinical leadership across the ward. This role is instrumental in supporting staff development, maintaining professional standards, and leading quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
About you
We are looking for an experienced and motivated senior nurse with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for education and professional development. The ideal candidate will have:
- Current New Zealand Nursing Council registration and Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- A relevant qualification in adult education
- A Postgraduate Certificate (minimum), and a willingness to work towards Clinical Masters in Nursing
- A current senior level on the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), demonstrating a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Proficient computer skills
- A minimum of 3 years - experience in Inpatient Rehabilitation (previous Nurse Educator experience is highly desirable)
