About the Role

An exciting opportunity to lead transformative change in Ophthalmology services across Te Whatu Ora's Northern Region. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to take on the role of Ophthalmology Regional Manager, a key position driving the continued regionalisation of Ophthalmology services across the Northern Region.

The Northern Region includes three Te Whatu Ora Health NZ Ophthalmology services. Together, these services provide care to more than 160,000 patients annually, across nine clinical sites.

  • Te Tai Tokerau – Northland
  • Te Toka Tumai – Auckland
  • Counties Manukau

The Ophthalmology Regional Manager will play a pivotal leadership role, working closely with the Regional Leadership Team and under the governance of the Regional Ophthalmology Oversight Group. This role supports alignment and integration across the three services, leading change initiatives and regional projects that support the long-term vision for a unified regional service.

This is a 12month fixed-term, full-time role (1.0 FTE), ending upon the formal establishment of the regional Ophthalmology service.

About you | Important Skills

We are seeking a candidate who is:

  • Passionate about improving outcomes for patients and equity in care.
  • Experienced in leading change processes and working across complex systems.
  • Resilient, adaptable and can demonstrate strong leadership though periods of change.
  • Skilled in collaboration, project management and stakeholder engagement.

You will be able to work effectively with diverse teams across districts and professions. You will be adept at working with a range of stakeholders, Senior managers and clinical leaders. You have an understanding of NZ healthcare preferably in the former DHB environment with special interest in analytics and /or and understanding of production planning within health as well as any relevant clinical knowledge. You should have excellent people and communication skills (both spoken and written) and the resilience and flexibility to support change in the sector.

You will have a relevant tertiary qualification and ideally be able to traverse a range of competencies from developing, implementing and managing projects under the programme of work and engaging with owners of related work streams (e.g. workforce planning, capital planning, process improvement).

The role is 12 months fixed term based at Te Toka Tumai in Auckland with regional working across all Districts. Some travel within the Northern Region will be required.
