Job description

Executive-Level Leadership | High-Value, Nationally Significant Portfolio

We are working with a central government agency responsible for delivering a nationally significant infrastructure programme. As part of their ongoing investment in regional leadership, they are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Regional Manager to provide strategic oversight and governance of a diverse portfolio of capital and operational transport initiatives.

This is a senior, influential position with responsibility for aligning regional infrastructure delivery to national strategy, overseeing major investment programmes, and building enduring partnerships across the public and private sectors.

About the Role:

Operating as the senior regional escalation point, this role leads the delivery performance of large-scale programmes and complex capital investments. You will act as a key conduit between local delivery teams and national leadership — ensuring governance frameworks are followed, risks are managed, and outcomes remain aligned to both local aspirations and national objectives.

The key to your success will be the ability to build trust and credibility with a wide range of stakeholders, including iwi, local government, contractors, consultants, and other public sector entities. You will also work collaboratively with your peers across other business units and regional relationships to ensure integration across the full transport lifecycle.

The Programme will cover major projects including nationally significant works and a further high volume of smaller complex projects focused on resilience and regional connectivity.

What we're looking for:
  • A respected senior professional with a minimum 15+ years of infrastructure or roading delivery experience.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related construction/infrastructure discipline.
  • Strong technical grounding — ideally an engineering background — with proven experience spanning design, constructability, commercial oversight, and delivery assurance.
  • Confidence to govern complex capital projects and oversee multiple programmes of work simultaneously.
  • Able to effectively coach and support others to succeed, including leading and/or influencing large multi-disciplinary teams at a senior level.
  • Someone pragmatic and diplomatic, able to ask the hard questions, resolve challenges, and ensure alignment between national priorities and regional execution.
This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in shaping long-term transport outcomes for Aotearoa, while leading a high-performing team within a supportive and future-focused organisation. It is a high trust, high-impact role working across a national team while maintaining strong regional presence.
