About the role
The Starship Palliative Care Service has an exciting role that has become available as Paediatric Palliative Care Fellow. This is a unique opportunity to work with an experienced and professional Paediatrics team in a broad variety of practice within a tertiary children’s hospital.
In this role, you will gain advanced paediatric palliative care clinical skills and undertake research or innovation in an approved area of choice. This role will contribute to the winter nights registrar roster.

About the Team/Service/Location
The Starship Palliative Care Service is based at Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand and provides specialist paediatric palliative care to children with serious illness (life-limiting or life-threatening conditions) and their family/whānau across the Northern region (Te Toka Tumai, Counties Manukau, Waitemata & Te Tai Tokerau). The Paediatric Palliative Care Fellow is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and managing children who are patients within the service.
We are a friendly, hard-working and motivated service that provide expert assessments and interventions for children and adolescents and their family/whānau attending the Starship Services. Our team consist of senior medical officers, nurse specialists, a psychotherapist, a social worker and team administration.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will:
- Have completed basic paediatric training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and be a registered advanced trainee
- Have general scope of registration with MCNZ
- An interest in the holistic and medical management of Paediatric Palliative Care patients.
Whilst working closely with the interdisciplinary team, the ability to work autonomously in a multi-cultural environment is essential. The environment is that of a high degree of teamwork and collaboration, with a focus on equity and upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
