As Practice Lead - Channel Development, you'll lead MBIE's approach to online channel development, ensuring our platforms and tools are effective, efficient, and future-focused. You'll champion best practice across digital service design, stack / platform management, and vendor engagement, while aligning our work with broader organisational goals.



This role is about more than just technology-it's about people. It's a pivotal role within the Online Channels team, reporting to the Manager - Channel Development. You'll foster strong partnerships across MBIE and with external stakeholders, mentor and coach others, and lead mahi tahi (collaborative) ways of working to deliver shared outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • Lead technology, platform, and vendor management workstreams
  • Drive strategic improvements in online channel development and usability
  • Champion continuous improvement in processes, documentation, and delivery
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across MBIE and with external partners
  • Develop frameworks for testing and adopting new technologies
  • Champion data-driven design and customer insights
  • Contribute to MBIE's digital roadmaps, standards, and service level agreements
  • Represent Online Channels in cross-agency initiatives and forums
  • Mentor and coach team members to grow capability and confidence

Skills and Experience Required

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on relationship-building, partnership, and effective communication
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring, coaching, and leading collaborative teams
  • Proven experience in digital service delivery, UX design, and emerging technologies
  • Deep knowledge of NZ Government standards for accessibility and usability
  • Strategic leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Experience managing vendors and contracts
  • A solution-agnostic mindset and ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Commitment to continuous learning and cultural capability, including kaupapa Maori approaches
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, digital content, or a related field preferred
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
