Join New Zealand Government Procurement's collaborative procurement team as a Principal Commercial Specialist AoG and play a pivotal role in delivering strategic sourcing and commercial excellence across the New Zealand Government.

Each year, the Government spends over $50 billion on goods and services. As a senior trusted advisor, you'll bring deep procurement expertise, business acumen, and strategic foresight to ensure this spend delivers maximum public value.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex procurement and commercial initiatives across government.
  • Provide expert advice and strategic direction on sourcing, supplier relationships, and market trends.
  • Mentor and coach other Commercial Specialists, building capability across the system.
  • Influence early-stage planning and shape commercial strategies that align with policy and future market dynamics.
  • Represent NZGP in high-level engagements with agencies, suppliers, and Ministers.

  • Extensive experience in procurement or commercial leadership, ideally in government or regulated environments.
  • Proven ability to deliver major procurement projects and manage significant programmes of work.
  • Considerable experience in project management and delivering major/significant procurement projects to scope, time and budget, whilst achieving successful procurement outcomes.
  • Proven capability to design effective commercial strategies, to plan and deliver timely solutions, and to manage contracts that maintain and deliver value throughout their lifecycle.
  • Excellent relationship management skills - able to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships with senior leaders and other key stakeholders.
  • High political nous and understanding of the machinery of government.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
