Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Advisor in Communications and Engagement to join the Wellington team supporting NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) projects.
This role plays a pivotal part in effectively communicating and engaging with stakeholders, communities, and mana whenua. You will develop C&E plans to deliver best practice engagement to support transport projects and programmes. Making connections right across the business, there will be plenty of opportunity for growth and professional development.
You’ll be adept at balancing work with project teams by providing considered advice on issues, risks and opportunities while working with your colleagues in the Communications and Engagement team, so experience working on projects and collaborating with teams is essential for this role.

Ko koe tēnei | About you
We are looking for great storytellers with a strong understanding of communications channels and engagement experience. You will be a strategic thinker with experience working in the public sector.
Experience working on and prioritising multiple pieces of work and projects, while working to deadlines, is a must. You will be innovative and creative, a self-starter and be flexible and have:
- Proven experience in communications and engagement planning and delivery at a senior advisor level
- Excellent writing and editing skills and experience presenting complex information clearly and simply
- Sound knowledge of communications and engagement tools, techniques and channels, including digital
- An ability to adjust pragmatically and constructively to changes in work practices, and to deal with competing demands and ambiguity
- Proven ability to build relationships and a collaborative mindset
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public service.
