About us

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is an independent Crown entity that regulates the electricity market. We are a kaitiaki of electricity, and our purpose is to enhance New Zealanders' lives, prosperity, and environment through electricity.

The electricity industry is at a pivotal moment, with the journey towards renewable energy sources and innovation reshaping how we operate. To meet these challenges and opportunities, we're evolving as an organisation - growing our capabilities, expanding our reach, and building a team ready to create a brighter, more sustainable future for Aotearoa. Our focus is on making a difference through bold thinking, collaboration, and delivering value for the communities we serve.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor - Communications to join our team until Tuesday, 30 June 2026. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team dedicated to making information about New Zealand's electricity industry and market clear and engaging.

We're seeking someone with at least five years' experience in communications, ideally working alongside a multi-disciplinary communications team.

Are you someone with the following?

  • A can-do attitude with initiative and the ability to think outside the box
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • A talent for spotting media opportunities, driving engagement and managing queries
  • Experience in development and execution of end-to-end communications plans across all channels
  • A knack for building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • A passion for translating technical or complex information into meaningful messages
  • Experience in the energy sector is preferred (but not necessary)
  • Experience working with digital channels including e-newsletters, social media and/or website content management systems

If you're a motivated communications professional with a talent for storytelling, a knack for making complex information easy to understand, and the ability to collaborate and influence effectively, we'd love to hear from you.

Why work for us?

Electricity plays a critical role in the quality of our lives and businesses. As an electricity kaitiaki our work is diverse, intellectually challenging and contributes to our communities, economy, environment, and the nation as a whole. We are a small but high-impact organisation where talented individuals can make a real difference. We foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, ongoing learning, and knowledge sharing.

We support a healthy work-life balance and offer a range of benefits to support our teams:

  • Competitive remuneration salary range $113,652 to $142,065 (plus 3% net KiwiSaver contribution)
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
