We’re looking for someone who:
- We’re looking for a current student in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or Information Technology to help us migrate existing GIS content to new servers. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with a real-world enterprise GIS in a supportive team environment. You’ll gain valuable experience with GIS software—specifically ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise—and contribute to the delivery of robust, scalable GIS web services.
- For GIS or Geography students, this is a chance to deepen your understanding of the server-side capabilities of the ArcGIS platform. For Computer Science or IT students, you’ll explore the world of GIS while leveraging your programming and web skills. For the right person, there may also be opportunities to get involved with spatial analysis, data management, and GIS administration.
Mō te tangata | About you:
- Must be currently studying towards a qualification in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or Information Technology, or have completed one in the last six months.
- Must have experience using GIS software, ideally ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Must have good attention to detail with repetitive tasks.
- Must have strong written English for writing metadata and documentation.
- Ideally have computer programming skills, particularly with Python.
- Ideally have experience or interest in web services and HTTP protocol internals.
- Ideally have experience querying data using SQL.
Mō te tūranga | About the role:
- This is a fixed-term, full time position, starting 3 November 2025 and ending no later than 20 February 2026.
- This is an office-based role at our head office in Hamilton Central.
- You will be working alongside Spatial Analysts, Data Management Analysts, and Geospatial Systems Administrators.
- Over the summer, you will learn about:
- Using ArcGIS Pro to create maps designed for publishing as web services
- Using data from Enterprise Geodatabases,
- Publishing web services to ArcGIS Enterprise,
- Creating and modifying web maps in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise,
- Looking for flaws and coordinating fixes,
- Writing and updating metadata for web maps and services,
- Applying changes to an enterprise GIS under ITIL change control.
