Summer Assistant Vacancy - Geothermal Compliance (Fixed term - 12 weeks)

Te Tūranga - The Role:

Our Compliance team is working on ground truthing a geothermal bore map to confirm the location of up to 2500 sites! They comprise of both current and abandoned geothermal bores located within the Rotorua caldera and we need your help to do this!

In this role:

  • You will primarily be wandering the streets of beautiful Rotorua looking for old, new and abandoned geothermal bores. Ideally you will know what these are and be able to recognise one, but we can teach you if needed.
  • You will use an app to record your sightings to update a GIS layer for future use. This will help with the safe development of housing and other industrial projects in Rotorua so you will be contributing to valued work.
  • You will also work closely with our external stakeholders, WorkSafe and Rotorua Lakes Council to ensure the safe usage of geothermal bores both now and into the future.

You’ll be joining the Air, Industry and Response Compliance team. We work closely to monitor air quality, industrial sites and pollution response. We are a hard working bunch but we help keep environmental standards high for the benefit of our local communities and environment, now and into the future.

Ngā Pūkenga, ngā wheako - Your Skills & Experience:

  • We are seeking an independent and responsible individual to join us in undertaking this project.
  • You will have a love of being outdoors and be reasonably physically fit as there will be a lot of walking!
  • We are also seeking someone who has an interest in Compliance activities as your passionate nature will help you to complete this project as well as being adept at picking up technology.
  • You will also be studying or plan to commence studying towards an Environmental Science related qualification or have relevant experience that is equivalent.
  • We also require you to hold a current driver's licence.

This position will be located in Rotorua.
