Acting Head of School

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are invited from qualified candidates for the positions of Acting Head of School to lead the newly formed Schools of Nursing, Allied Health, Acute and Primary Health and Community and Public Health. These appointments would be on a secondment basis for up to 12 months while the faculty undertakes a recruitment process for new Heads of School.
The Acting Head of School is a senior academic leadership role that enables the School to achieve excellence and equity in education and research and supports implementing the University's strategic and operational goals. This role requires a leader who can inspire, innovate, and drive academic and industry excellence. With a focus on delivering a high-quality educational experience and fostering partnerships within the field, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the school's future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction for the School
- Continue to develop and implement academic programs that meet industry standards and student needs
- Continue to foster strong relationships with industry partners and stakeholders to ensure curriculum relevance and career opportunities
- Lead, mentor, and motivate academic and professional staff to achieve school objectives
- Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and efficient school operations
- Uphold the school's policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with educational regulations and standards
- Act as the primary liaison between the school and external entities, promoting effective communication and positive relationships

Applicants are invited to submit their curriculum vitae and a cover letter including a description of their vision and process for developing the new school within the transformed faculty and an outline of how they meet some or all of the following key selection criteria:
- A PhD or other doctoral qualification in a related discipline
- A strong record of academic achievement, preferably as a Professor or Associate Professor
- Demonstrated successful experience in academic leadership and people management within an academic environment and/or organisations of relevance to the school and academia. Please highlight relevant interdisciplinary contributions.
- Success leading administrative innovations and impact, curriculum development and/or research growth
- Capability to lead the school on an authentic and robust Te Tiriti o Waitangi journey and to advance Māori and Pacific students, staff, and community outcomes. A champion for equity.
- Outstanding resilience, interpersonal, negotiation and diplomacy skills, combined with a coaching and consultative approach to leadership

Interested candidates should submit their application by 9 June 2025, 5 pm. A full selection panel will review the applications received and assist the Dean in the selection process. Interviews are expected to take place from late-June, with a start date in July to be agreed with the successful candidate.
